In jazz and improvised music, rural and urban destinations have been inspiring narrative catalysts for decades. Whether for standards such as Harlem Nocturne, April in Paris, Moonlight in Vermont, and London Blues, or even for entire albums such as Charlie Haden's In Angel City , Jack DeJohnette's Hudson , Richard Galliano's New York Tango , or Miles Davis' Sketches of Spain, it has always been the sometimes narrow, sometimes broader geographical coordinates that have served as catalysts for creative and imaginative forces. Stephanie Lottermoser's new album Hamburg, the brilliant and eagerly awaited follow-up to This Time, which reached number 2 in the German jazz charts in 2018 and which Jazzthing attested to combining feather-light songs (...) that all have remarkable depth, could undoubtedly be included in this canon, were it not for the small but subtle differences that set Hamburg distinguish it quite decisively from the aforementioned titles: the autobiographical elements of the narrative and the musician's thoughts on relevant social issues of our time, which have significantly influenced the architecture of the songs. Hamburg – the album not only looks at the city itself, but also allows the gaze to wander further, deep into the countryside. " (Thorsten Hingst)
